Hi, I’m MsGrubbyfungus and I’m a nature addict. One of my greatest joys in life is being able to walk out into my garden and pick/gather dinner.
Anyway, welcome to my little piece of the blogosphere where I’ll ramble on about various happenings at our home — Three Pea Homestead (AKA: MsGF’s Home for Geriatric Dogs and Other Wayward Creatures). In these pages I hope to share with you my ideas about permaculture, modern homesteading, natural resource conservation and related topics, along with ramblings about day-to-day life and the fur family.
I originally hail from the magical, mystical Alaska and now find myself hanging around the Fort Worth, Texas area (by way of Ireland, back to Alaska, Wisconsin, California and London – nope, not an “Army Brat”). My love for the natural world and sustainable food production was born from my early childhood in Alaska where I vividly remember early morning fishing with dad, foraging for berries and wild rosehips, collecting eggs with my little sand castle bucket and picking berries, carrots, peas, etc, from the garden and eating them on the spot; all while wearing a pair of wellies that were nearly as tall as I was!
Now I share my little homestead with “The Cast of Characters”:
The amazing MrGrubbyfungus (my long-suffering husband), four dogs (Snickers, Twix, Bonnie/Bon Bon and Lassie), two cats (known as Tabby Cat and Bubba, laying hens (collectively known as “The Girls”) and a few rabbits.
As for my bona fides, I’m one of the over educated — having earned both my undergrad and masters degrees in Environmental Studies/Management. After being an arm-chair gardener for many years we finally got our own 1.3 acre piece of paradise/ personal research station with our move to Texas and I quickly became completely addicted to the actual doing of the “modern homesteading” thing that I’d been studying and dreaming about for years. In 2009 I had the privilege to earn my Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) studying with Drs. Victor and Mai Philips.
With that, welcome again to my “Adventures in Growingland”, I hope you enjoy joining my journey down the rabbit hole.
